Top startups in Uganda
There are 3,939 startups in Uganda which include SafeBoda, Numida, Xeno, GOGO, ChapChap. Out of these, 459 startups are funded, with 16 having secured Series A+ funding. Higher Education Institutions ($543M) and Biopharma Outsourcing ($435M) are the top-funded sectors in Uganda, with over 50 companies, including Makerere University and Islamic University In Uganda. Kampala (290), Mbarara (12), and Gulu (6) are the top cities by number of startups hosted. In the last five years, 105 companies raised over $1.7B in funding across 242 rounds. The number of companies founded have declined by 73.3%, from 60 companies in 2024 to 16 companies in 2025.
