Company Details

Microchips Biotech develops microchip implants for drug delivery. Its platform technology is an implantable microchip that can be inserted in a physician's office under local anesthesia and can be activated or inactivated wirelessly. This microchip can then release preset doses of the device over months and years. Microchips has won a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to use its platform technology to develop an implantable contraceptive device for women with a life of ~16 years. In addition, the company has a partnership with Teva to apply its drug delivery platform for Teva generics in the management of chronic diseases, like osteoporosis. Microchips was co-founded by MIT's Robert Langer and Michael Cima. The technology can be used for therapies that require frequent, long-term dosing, or delivery via injection in diseases such as osteoporosis, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, pain management and several others.
