Nanomerics is a speciality pharmaceutical company focused on the development of pharmaceutical products with enhanced bioavailability. The company uses proprietary pharmaceutical nanotechnology and know-how developed by the founding scientists Professor Ijeoma F. Uchegbu and Professor Andreas G. Schätzlein at the Universities of Strathclyde and Glasgow and, latterly at the UCL School of Pharmacy. Nanomerics’ Molecular Envelop Technology (MET) platformo addresses bioavailability challenges for a broad range of therapeutics, including low molecular weight hydrophobic drugs, peptides, and nucleic acid based therapeutics (plasmid, siRNA, miRNA). Specific administration routes for which the technology has demonstrated clear advantages include the oral route, transport across the blood-brain-barrier, delivery to solid tumours, as well as to the eye. Nanomerics Product Pipeline includes the following - NM0127 ‘METDoloron’ (a fast acting nanoenabled pain therapeutic, which is based on an endogenous peptide delta opioid receptor agonist being developed for the treatment of neuropathic pain), NM0133 'METSporine' ( a cyclosporine A formulation indicated for relevant ocular conditions), NM0147 'METAmphizon' (nano-enabled orally active form of Amphotericin B to treat Leishmaniasis) and NM0161 (an NCE being developed for an undisclosed condition). Nanomerics announced in Jan 2017 that it has licensed the North American rights to NM133 for the treatment of dry eye to IACTA Pharmaceuticals.
