Oasmia Pharmaceutical is engaged in the development of novel anti-cancer formulations based on well-established cytostatics targeted at human and animal health. The firm's lead candidate Apealea (Paclical) is a novel formulation of Paclitaxel, based on its patented excipient platform XR-17. The company has submitted a Marketing Authorization Application to the EMA in Feb 2016. XR-17 is the company's proprietary nano-sized excipient based on Vitamin A, which is a surfactant with micelle-forming capabilities. XR-17 can form micelles with water soluble compounds also and hence it can enclose several molecules in micelles regardless of their water solubility. This would thus reduce the no. of doses, as two drug substances can be infused in one go and thus their nanoparticle-based drug delivery technology has the capability to reduce side-effects and cater to multiple therapy areas. The company has 4 other drugs in the pipeline for cancers in humans and 2 drugs for animal cancers. Oasmia has capabilities for GMP manufacture of its drugs for clinical sales and trials.
