PMC-Sierra (a spin-off from Microtel Pacific Research) was a fabless semiconductor company that developed semiconductor solutions for multiple industry applications including storage, communications, optical networking, printing, and embedded computing. Offerings included SAS and SATA storage systems, fibre channel controller, interconnect products, along with ICs for FTTH/PON, Ethernet over SONET/SDH, optical transport network (OTN), low-power RFICs, and wireless base transceiver stations (BTS). It also provided system-on-chip solutions for laser and multi-function printers. Its DIGI-G4 OTN processor was awarded a Lightwave Innovation Award in 2015. The company counted HP, EMC Corporation, Huawei, Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, ZTE, and Juniper as its clients. The company was later acquired by Microsemi in 2016.
