VOLTERIO (formerly NRG-X) has developed an automated charging system for electric cars. The system comprises of two independent components, Vehicle Unit - charging system that can be retrofitted in car's underbody and Base Unit - acts as a charging robot & can be deployed in the parking space. When an electric car fitted with a vehicle unit approaches a respective parking lot, the VOLTERIO base unit automatically starts to communicate with the vehicle unit via an encrypted wireless connection. The base unit leverages ultrasound-based micro-navigation system to ensure the correct vehicle position and connect with the charging system. The system also integrates an intelligent charging management system that enables an optimized balance between charging capacity & duration with regards to the load supply.
